Lythrum virgatum ‘Rosy Gem’ has long, upright spikes which are covered in rosy-pink flowers from late summer to autumn. A robust perennial which reliably returns each year, quickly spreading to form clumps, its sturdy stems are wind resistant and never require staking. It thrives in any soils except very dry sandy ones and is a strong performer in even the heaviest clay soils. It is adapted to moist soils in sunny or partially shaded borders and even permanently boggy soils beside ponds so it’s a lovely plant to enliven pond margins with colour and height. The nectar-rich blooms are a magnet for bees and butterflies, making this a great wildlife-friendly option. Related to our native purple loosestrife, it has naturalistic looks which suit a cottage garden or prairie style border. Height: 90cm (36″). Spread: 45cm (18″).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
