Kale ‘Daubenton’s Variegata’

A single plant of ‘Daubenton’s Variegata’ will keep you fed with greens for life! ‘Daubenton’s Variegata’ is a shrubby, perennial Kale that produces mild, tender leaves for picking all through the year, including winter. A variegated version of the more common ‘Daubenton’s Green’, its boldly patterned leaves make an attractive edible ornamental which looks right at home in a Victorian-style potager. Shunned by supermarkets due to its inability to store, ‘Daubenton’s Variegata’ is a superb, space-saving plant for the veg plot. Although plants do become exhausted after about 5 years, they are easy to strike from cuttings, guaranteeing a lifetime’s supply of nutritious greens. For a tasty snack, try tossing them in sesame oil and sea salt and roasting in a hot oven for 5-10 mins to make kale crisps. Height: 90-120cm (3-4ft). Spread: 120-150cm (4-5ft).
