Hydrangea are generally one of the easiest shrubs to grow, but unlike most, this particular variety is very pH sensitive, meaning that it will thrive in any soil you provide, but the colour of the flowers will vary. On alkaline, a compact lacecap with deep red flowers will emerge, whereas given an acidic soil, deep reddish-mauve flowers will take the stage. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Kardinal’ is a reliable, hardy, deciduous shrub with dark green leaves on strong, sturdy stems. Flowers buds form in early summer and blooms will last until early autumn. A worthy winner of an RHS AGM. Height & Spread: 1.5m (5′).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
