From the Balkans comes this unusual red-flowered Echium. Echium russicum bears basal clumps of slender, grey-green leaves which give rise to stiff, twelve-inch, flower spikes, densely packed with small crimson flowers with conspicuous red anthers. Like other Echiums, these soon hum loudly with foraging bees. This handsome plant lends vertical accents to drought prone borders, thriving in poor soils and providing useful colour in the late summer garden. Although a short-lived perennial, leaving some flower spikes to seed will allow new plants to establish. Height: 90cm (35in). Spread: 50cm (20in).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
